David Wright has a soft spot in his heart for Southern Oregon University. As he says, "My mom and dad met each other there, and, if that hadn't happened, I wouldn't be here!"
David's parents are Jim and Judy Wright '63, longtime supporters of the University. Jim Wright is the former president of LTM, the building materials company founded by his grandfather that is now part of the Knife River Corporation. Raider Stadium, the Center for the Visual Arts, and the Higher Education Center are all standing today thanks to support from LTM. The SOU Fund, the Raider Scholarship Fund, the Schneider Museum of Art, and many other programs have benefited greatly from the generosity of Jim and Judy Wright.
Jim has served on the SOU Foundation and Raider Club Boards. Now he's excited to see the torch passing to a new generation. David is currently board chair of the southern Oregon chapter of the Red Cross, as well as being a member of both the SOU Foundation and the Hearts and Vines Boards. "Just being around Dad, I've seen what a passion the University has been," says David. "To see what he's done, it's an honor to be on the SOU Foundation Board."
Jim also chaired the fundraising committee for the RCC/SOU Higher Education Center (HEC) in Medford. "I think the HEC is so special. It's now truly 'Southern Oregon' University," says Jim. "The HEC has brought higher education to Medford."
"It has brought the business community and the University even closer together," says David, co-owner of Commercial Property Management, a real estate management company. "I think it's so important to have this university here."
